Halloween Dessert Table featuring SugarPartiesLA

HAPPY OCTOBER TO ALL MY WITCHY WITCHES! Seriously though, it is my favorite month of the entire year. It’s like my soul pops out of it’s coffin and is ready to party and decorate as soon as the first day hits *insert laughing emoji here*… and I can’t lie, I’ve been cleaning and cooking to the Halloween playlists on Spotify since August… but now it is socially acceptable to flaunt that in every aspect of my life.

So with that being said, I have something fun for you guys today! My sister SugarPartiesLA and I decided to do something festive to celebrate October and get everyone inspired to do something similar for any parties or just cause (which is usually my case!).

In case you don’t know who my sister is let me give you a quick summary of what she does! Her name is Susan and we are seven years apart. SEVEN! But we have been so close our entire lives and I am so excited to be able to work with her creatively. She started SugarPartiesLA by herself all while raising two boys who are two and three years old! (Can we say SUPER MOMMY?) Her aesthetic and creativity is so unbelievable, so when she asked if we should style a table together of course I said YES! I figured my readers would love to be inspired by this, just as much as I get inspired by her work on the daily!

You can find Susan’s website by clicking here to see more of her styling and to read up on her blog. I will be sharing a few of the DIY here and Susan will be sharing her portion on her blog!

Grab a pumpkin spice coffee or something to munch on ladies and gents, because this is going to be a loooooong blog post!

Halloween Desserts

For this, I saved myself some time and bought pre-made donuts from Vons just because we decided to do this project very last minute. Otherwise, you may bake your own donuts following this simple recipe inspired by

Baking Supplies Needed:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup + 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup + 2 Tablespoons buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 Tablespoon vegetable or canola oil

What To Do:

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. Spray donut pan with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  4. In a large measuring cup, whisk together buttermilk, egg and oil.
  5. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and whisk until combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Place the batter in a ziploc bag and close. Snip one corner of the bag.
  7. Pipe the batter out into the prepared pan, filling the donut cavities 2/3 full.
  8. Bake the donuts for 8 to 9 minutes. The bottom of the donuts should be golden brown and the tops should be light.
  9. Cool the donuts in the pan for 10 minutes. Transfer onto a cooling rack.
  10. Cool completely before glazing.

DIY Frosting:

  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tblspns milk
  • 1/2 tspn vanilla extractIn a small bowl, stir together sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until sugar is completely dissolved then dip the donuts into a bowl with the frosting in a circular motion.
Onto the fun part… decorating! I did end up making my own actual frosting that I piped through a ziplock bag using a small circular tip. This was very simple and is even easier if you own a KitchenAid mixer. All you do is take roughly 1/2-1 stick of room temperature unsalted butter (depending on how many donuts you’re making, I’m terrible at accurate measurements when it comes to this though as I eyeball it) and about 1 cup-1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar then MIX!

To do so properly, first add the butter alone and let it whip on high until butter appears fluffy in texture. Then, simply add in powdered sugar and turn it on LOW first (it’ll save you from the mess of powdered sugar flying everywhere) then medium to high for a few minutes or until desired texture is formed. That’s it! Add it to a pipping bag or ziplock bag and pipe away!

Start from the inner hole of the donut and pipe lines outwards

Begin to create the webs by piping wide “U” shapes to connect to each previous line

Repeat the same process on the outer portion of the donut. If icing gets too runny, refrigerate it for about 10 minutes!

You’re done! You can play up with your creativity by combining different food coloring mixtures for the icing and donut glaze to create some cool contrast and pops of colors!

SKULLROONS – Skullified Macaroons!

This is probably the easiest of them all! What you’ll need are:

  • Macaroons
  • Skull Gummies
  • Leftover icing from donuts!

Start off by piping a drop of icing in the center of each macaroon
Simply grab a skull gummy and place it right on top
Set on a garnished plate and enjoy! We served it up next to some Boo chips from Trader Joe’s and teeth gummies!

Spooky Decor

A majority of all the decor pieces were purchased from the 99 cent store & Dollar Tree! Hard to believe right?! The customized pieces such as spider vinyl for milkshakes, etc and BOO banner can be available for purchase at SugarPartiesLA on ETSY and of course, you can request whatever your heart desires!

Susan from SugarPartiesLA pulled her inspiration to style a pink Halloween because of my dresser that I recently painted as shown on my Instagram stories! I love how soft and simple everything is, but still giving off some eerie and creepy vibes. Truly in love with this styled table. I hope you guys love it as much as we do! *heart eyes emoji!!!!*

Thanks for peeking and I hope you are inspired to create something creepy! Be sure to share with us if you do and don’t forget to check Susan’s blog out for details on the rest! <3

Makeup, Products

That’s probably the biggest question I get when it comes to MAKE UP FOR EVER’s cult favorite foundation, Ultra HD. HD stands for High Definition, which you typically see when shopping for a TV or camera. As of recently, Ultra HD has come out and that basically stands for 4k technology. To sum it up in a nutshell, this means there is a lot more pixels with video + camera which means CRISP AND CLEAR images! As a way to keep up with this, MAKE UP FOR EVER launched the Ultra HD Foundation which was specifically designed and formulated to give medium-full coverage without the heaviness. This helps it appear more natural on videos + pictures since they now pick up even more details than ever before.

Why would this matter to you as an everyday gal? Well, firstly, if you’re having your photo taken (this includes selfies ladies!) then why not wear something that flatters you? In addition, a large sum of people now film themselves (hello YouTube!) and want to appear as flawless as possible. But how does this serve you if you’re looking for an everyday foundation?

| I am using Ultra HD Foundation in R250 with an Artisan #108 + #126 brush to apply and blend. |

Think about it this way… the clearest and most crisp image we will ever see of a person is when we are FACE TO FACE with them! Do you want your people to look at your face, or your foundation? Hmm…face, please! With the super light-weight feel, it is also extremely comfortable to wear everyday. It honestly feels like you are wearing very minimal makeup.

The best news of it all is that Ultra HD is wearable for ALL skin types! The special hyaluronic spheres it has in its formulation helps keep your skin hydrated, but not oily. This is essential for a natural finish to any look since skin naturally as a slight sheen to it. There are also 40 shades to choose from, ranging in cool (Y-yellow) and warm (R-red) tones. You’ll find the first letter in front of the number of your shade. For example, my shade is R250 which is a warmer, aka red, toned formula. Finding your shade can be tricky if you don’t feel experienced enough to do so, so visit a MAKE UP FOR EVER boutique or Sephora to get color matched and be sure to try at LEAST three shades before choosing one! Also keep in mind that most people can wear more than one foundation shade and get away with it, so keep your options open depending on what you feel compliments your skin the best.

My other essentials in addition to wearing the Ultra HD Foundation are featured in the photograph above. I begin by prepping my skin with the Ultra HD Skin Booster to deliver additional hydration to my seriously dry skin! I absolutely noticed a big difference when using this and highly recommend it to anybody with dry skin. Follow up with the booster, I use the Ultra HD concealer in Y23 underneath my eyes to brighten and even out further. I finish up by dusting and setting with a powder. The one featured here is the Ultra HD Pressed Powder in 01. Finally, the last step is to spray and set with Mist & Fix aka the best setting spray I have ever used. This one is a true setting spray and there hasn’t been another than has completely set my makeup the way this does! My favorite brushes for foundation that are featured are the Artisan Brushes #126 (big fluffy brush) #108 (large flat brush) & #144 (small fluffy flat brush).

The beginning of my beauty pursuit began based on my vibrant red hair. This formed my image and expressed my taste in style, having my hair be so vivid and bold. I had this color for just about 10 years, and it was time to call it quits. I itched for a change, but I wasn’t sure of what. All I knew is that I was so over the constant salon visits and money spent towards constantly refreshing my color and roots. I was tired.

As my hair began to grow out, I considered something I never thought I would do. Grow out my natural hair…and chop everything off. What’s the big deal, right? Well,  I had not seen my natural hair in ages. So I did it. My hair styling thought I was crazy, but she let us go through with it.

Fast forward to a year later… I’m wondering what took me so long to finally go back! There is NOTHING like a fresh coat of color on your hair. All this time, my natural hair felt so foreign to me and actually made me feel untrue to myself. I did not feel like the person I was before, as silly as it sounds revolved around hair. But it’s true. My change itched for pink! I couldn’t be happier.

The process took all day, and as shocked as my stylist was, it was just one round of bleach that she strategically applied through my hair so that any regrowth would look blended. Normally, for somebody who has as dark hair as I do, this can take months! But my hair is strong and for that, I am lucky!

The colors we used were by Pravana Vivids. The shades were customized and my finish result was a mixture of Rose Gold, Pink and Silver.

Products, Skin Care

It’s no secret that a great base (aka clear skin) makes a perfect canvas for makeup. It’s why cosmetic marketing almost always chooses the model with the already perfect skin to show a flawless finish. But what if you don’t have perfect skin?

This has always been a subject that comes up during my consultations with clients when it comes to makeup. They often are on the hunt for a foundation that gives the most coverage, but still appears natural. More often than not, when I ask what their skincare routine is, there is none. None at all! Sometimes, maybe the bare minimum, or the guilty soul who maybe takes a makeup wipe to her face if she has enough energy at the end of the day. My point? Skin care is important.

Although it is best to use several different products for different things (vitamin serums, toners, anti aging products) it can certainly be overwhelming. The truth is, what may work for me may not necessarily be your holy grail product. Each individual has different skin and different issues to tackle. What’s best is to start with a simple routine with quality products that will help you begin your skin care journey somewhere. If you already have an established regimen, then this will give you a glimpse into mine! If not, you can take inspiration or interest in the brands I mention. I suggest to also seek a sample or purchase a travel size to have a trial run so you can observe your skins response to the products.

I love this one because it is the perfect cleansing product that I used after I take my makeup off. The biggest key to proper makeup removal is using a makeup remover first then using a cleanser, such as this one, to cleanse your skin and remove residue. If you just simply use a cleanser to remove your makeup, you’re just spreading it all around and also over using product that will have you running out fairly quick. This specific cleanser removes it all but does not dry my skin out after doing so.

I have quite the combination of skin. My T-zone (the center of the face: forehead, nose, upper lip which resembles the letter T) is very oily and can barely keep any makeup in place while the rest of my face is dry. Since a majority of my skin suffers from dryness I tend to prefer extra hydrating products to keep my skin dewy and fresh. This specific moisurizer delivers amazing results when it comes to this! Products made with rose or rose water are usually hydrating but can often times be much too strong in fragrance. This moisturizer thankfully does not have that artificial smell to it which makes it extra easy for me to love! I highly recommend the Rose line from Fresh if you have similar concerns.

I love using face masks. It’s the perfect thing to do when you’re chilling and feel like doing something good… without much effort. The Sephora masks have been on my love-list lately because they’re affordable ($6) and work amazing. I use the Lotus monthly because as stated before I have pretty dry skin. The mask has this almost rubber-like texture to it that is loaded up with skin care. It feels so nice and refreshing! Best thing afterwards too? You don’t have to wash it off. You just take it off then massage the residue into your skin.

The most important tool for skin care is something that will properly remove any residue from dirt, makeup or oils. Hands are great, but sometimes it isn’t enough. As a makeup artist and someone who at times wears a full face of makeup, I need to know that everything will come off at night. The Clarisonic absolutely ensures that everything is removed which then helps my skin care to penetrate better when used after cleansing. I cannot LIVE without this product! So dramatic, right? The first time I ever used this, I understood what the hype was about. There may be knock off brands and cheaper alternatives, but I absolutely believe that Clarisonic is the best of them all! I have loved my results for years and have used this for almost 10 years!

This specific moisturizer helps so much with stubborn dry skin. I love to apply it after my skin is cleansed and my toner has been applied. A little bit goes a long way so there’s no need to waste product! This was a professional skin care line I used while in my esthetician course and instantly fell in love. It can be somewhat difficult to find so you can shop it by clicking on the image or if you have a license in beauty you can purchase it at Salon Centric.

Which one will you be trying? Let me know in the comments!

Home, Lifestyle

I have been obsessing over this whole bohemian, Moroccan, Scandinavian type of home decor lately. There has always been a love spot for this type of style in my life, especially because of my culture (middle eastern). We typically decorate with tons of patterns, golds, rugs, lighting and so on so to reflect that at home with certain pieces has been amazing!

Although we are in the process of moving I still wanted to temporarily come home to a styled coffee table. I love details in things and believe this is what makes or breaks interior styles for me personally. I used to lean more towards antique inspired styles with vintage touches (shout out to anybody who remembers my bedroom with peachy floral wallpaper!) but can really appreciate more of the modern and rustic styles trending around lately.

Read on for more details!

My coffee table looks just as photographed about 90% of the time, give or take some items. I temporarily threw a beautiful rug on top of our current coffee table (that I cannot wait to replace!) and tossed my pillow just recently gifted to me for my birthday which is from Target. To compliment these items I have:

Gold and White tray – Home Goods
Mason Jar – Target
Candles – HomeGoods + World Market
Pineapple salt + pepper shakers – World Market
Lantern – Gifted but totally available at World Market
Gold foil and Marble Coasters – HomeGoods
Cactus – local Nursery

Hope you enjoyed my quick styled coffee table and I can’t wait to share more home decor as we settle into our new home!

Lifestyle, Positivity

As my 25th birthday is approaching, I can’t help but think about how fast time is flying by! Most importantly, I have especially been feeling the shift in changes in my personal life decisions, thoughts, and overall lifestyle that has changed year after year. I certainly do not have it all together at 25 and absolutely feel there is so much left to learn and experience, but I have been seriously making some positive changes that have helped shape who I am becoming.

My biggest life changing moment to date has been marriage! I have been married for almost 2 years now. In this time, I have learned so much about myself and my husband. Being in such a serious relationship made me want to focus on myself that much more so I could be better for him, and for us. With that decision being made I dived into personal development books, podcasts, happiness journals and so on. Despite all these main factors, the person who stood out to me the most that really changed my outlook on life’s bumps has been my father in law. He is that person that, no matter how shitty a situation is, he tries to make the most of it in positivity. He always says, “life is beautiful” and I am really believing that more and more each day. Having conversations with him about life in general and hardships I have faced made me think to myself, if he has gone through so much in his time here, yet still manages to make sure each day he has is treated with gratefulness, happiness and positivity, why couldn’t I?

I began focusing on this heavily, even if I didn’t quite believe it at first. With practice (and continuous practice!) I have really felt a shift in my moods and how I handle what life throws at me. Being on social media for years has also really taught me early on that you have to have a thick skin. Not everybody is going to like you or agree with you, online and IRL. By why should that matter? You are living for you and only you. Nobody should decide your happiness, or your anger, other than you. You are who controls you, and that is the most important concept I have taken throughout these growing pain years.
Now for a list of my 25 years of wisdom!

  1. Push yourself but know when you need a break to balance out productivity and fun.
  2. Spend more time with your family. These are the people who will be here for you no matter what.
  3. Do more of what makes you happy. Whether it is reading, writing, walking, do more of what you love.
  4. Take time to remain creative. The adult coloring books are genius! Play with color and create something.
  5. Get outside. A breath of fresh air words WONDERS! It feels so beautiful to connect with nature and experience life outdoors.
  6. Get your hands dirty. This ties into being creative, but more geared towards building something or putting something together. Look up a fun DIY! Transform old furniture into a piece you love!
  7. Focus on the positive. Work towards understanding that life will happen no matter what. What matters MOST is the way you look at it and know that you will get through anything.
  8. Eat healthier. I can already feel my body begin to slow down and have less energy than I used to being a teen! This is a real eye opener for me so it makes me realize the importance of vegetables, water and a healthier diet overall. My favorite thing to do has been daily smoothies to help me get everything in one go.
  9. See it from another POV. This especially is important to me because I am married. If somebody is coming to you in regards to something you may not understand, try to see it from their shoes. How would you feel?
  10. Skincare is important AF. Yes, it is nice to wear makeup and have a flawless finish, but the older I get the more I am into a simpler and cleaner look. This means less is more when it comes to foundation, powders and so on. That is why skin care is a must! Beautify your skin naturally. Plus, keeping it well hydrated helps prevent wrinkles!
  11. Minimize your items. This is what I have recently been loving because not only does it help give a simple and clean space that is organized, but it helps me save money. I would obviously not call myself a minimalist but I have been adapting a lot of influence when it comes to my items such as clothes, shoes, makeup, you get the picture.
  12. Keep a motivational journal. It is so easy to get into the routine of a 9-5 and feel like you have no time at all to focus on yourself. These journals typically take 5-10 minutes a day and help you focus on yourself. You can note what you are grateful for, what your goals are, what made your day amazing. I highly recommend these!
  13. To piggy back on motivation, also MEDITATE. I know this seems hard because you assume you have to sit there and think about nothing…who can do that?! But no, it is just about training to silence your mind and focus on deep breathing. This has had such a great impact on me personally. I love to YouTube meditations to follow along with for morning or night.
  14. Read more. We easily get caught up on our phones, television, devices… But reading is great, especially if it is before bed. Pick something that interests you, get on a cozy hammock outdoors and wind down in beautiful words!
  15. Treat each day as if it were your last. This is easier said than done. We often get so caught up in life (I know I do) that we forget how lucky we are to be on this planet that is perfectly aligned with a body that is designed to repair itself and beat everyday to keep YOU alive! Let’s make an effort to be more grateful!

I hope you enjoyed this life list I’ve compiled together.

What will you be practicing more in your daily life?

Makeup, Products

Being on a budget is tough when you’re constantly tempted by advertisements or reviews in regards to beauty products that most would consider a luxury purchase. When it comes to beauty, it’s no secret that sometimes you really do get what you pay for. The great news is that the trend of makeup has spiked up these past several years (thanks to YouTube + Instagram!) so most affordable beauty brands have stepped their game up. What once was difficult to find in a drugstore has now easily been duped by many affordable brands.

I wanted to share budget friendly beauty products that are a steal since they work so amazing! I do still believe certain items should be purchased from a high-end quality brand, such as foundations and powders. These products sit on your face all day and if you have troubled skin or worry about clogging your pores, you want something that has quality ingredients. Not only that but most tend to have better finishes, last longer and have a better color selection. But what I think you can cheapen up on? Just about everything else! This can be concealers, lipsticks, eyeliners and certain blushes or bronzers. Again, brands these days have truly produced great products that they keep at reasonable prices.

    • First up is the Maybeline Dark Circles Correcting concealer. This one is no surprise since it has heavily been raved about by plenty of makeup gurus across social media. It’s definitely for a reason! I love the coverage you get using this product and it absolutely helps with correction underneath the eyes. The packaging is also very convenient as it has a sponge tip applicator which is used to tap where you need it.
      • Second up is the Creme Shop brushes. Buying quality brushes can get super expensive. When you’re working on building your collection and need several options to choose from, these are great! I personally am in love with their marble brush set since it’s also aesthetically pleasing! I tend to use their brushes for powder blushes, powder highlighters, detailing with concealer and for contour. I have not found these brushes to shed at all and I have been using them on the daily for almost a year!
        • Thirdly is NYX Mat Bronzer. I have been using this for YEARS and to this day it is still my absolute favorite bronzer that I use to contour with. No matter what high-end brand I have played with, this one tops them all in my opinion. A little bit goes a long way and instantly gives you cheekbones!

My bff and I make the best of our time when it is spent together since we don’t see each other on a regular basis due to the infamous busy schedules or when she’s doing my hair. We love to hunt the town for particular plants, grab a bite to eat at cute little restaurants, or hit up flea markets/crystal shops! This time though, we decided we needed to craft. We are both creative souls (she does hair while I do makeup) so naturally we love to get our hands dirty with the art of creating something. We made sure to plan an idea of what we ideally wanted to make, but we still walked into Jo-Ann’s overwhelmed! Where to even start when there is so much to make?! I set my mind up on this beautiful image off of Pinterest of a simple wall hanging piece. Pinterest helped big-time when it came to actually being in the store and trying to decide on colors, theme, etc. Danielle opted for the cutest picture collage ever featuring eucalyptus (my fave!).

These were ultra-easy to make and surprisingly didn’t take much time at all.
I used two different sized gold hoops, grey thin wrapping, and blush knitting material that was trimmed.
Here was my finish result prior to me hanging it up on a wall:

Here’s my bff’s, such an adorable piece!
She used a stick we hunted from outside, eucalyptus, twine + gold wire, little white clips, and printed photography that her boyfriend photographed (it was a present for him!)

Lifestyle, Positivity

It is so easy to fall into the everyday routine of life. We get sucked into this daily grind that strictly consists of work, home care, school, all while trying to balance some type of a social life! You may not notice the toll it takes on your mental state until you have a breakdown from juggling all stressors in your daily life. What’s important is a balance and with that balance, taking care of your needs mentally and emotionally.

I’ve personally gotten in these ruts before and let me tell you…sometimes it isn’t easy to get out. As somebody who easily gets stressed out it is absolutely vital for me to take care of myself. I have always loved hearing suggestions from others on what their favorite relaxation activities are. You may have tried some of these things but use them as a reminder to schedule yourself time to do what makes you happiest.

 Challenge yourself to some Yoga!

I know yoga may not be for everyone. Believe me, it can actually be quite hard! I still think it is an amazing physical activity that also plays a huge mental role. Classes can be really nice to take but sometimes I find that it can be distracting. My personal favorite way to practice yoga and get the ultimate relaxation factor out of it is to do so in the privacy of my own home. Simply YouTube a meditation yoga and pull out a mat! I find I can even get a quick one in before going to work since there are certain sessions that take anywhere from 5-10 minutes…totally easy to accomplish! I highly recommend checking out YouTube user “Boho Beautiful” for amazing videos to follow along with.

Music is great, but have you listened to Podcasts?!

Podcasts have easily become so important to me. You can truly learn so much and open your mind to many discussions by listening to podcasts. I often listen to them when driving rather than music and especially before falling asleep. I have specific meditation + positive affirmation channels I love listening to! What’s best is that they are free and available on Spotify. I highly suggest listening to Josie Ong’s Affirmation Pod when you need a nice reminder of positive words. Before I fall asleep, I typically listen to my all time favorite Chel Hamilton’s Meditation Minis Podcasts. Her voice is so soothing! She does a variety of different types of meditation such as visualizations (love these!) and breathing exercises. In addition to these, definitely check out  Real Simple’s Adulthood Made Easy, Sophia Amoruso’s Girlboss & Amber Rose’s Loveline.

Dive into a luxurious bath… You deserve it.

There’s something deeply relaxing about sitting in a tub of water. When you add a lush bath bomb or bath tea (obsessing over these lately) to the mix, it is incredibly indulging! What I love best when taking a bath is propping up my IPad and pressing play on a Netflix series. What really helps set the mood is to light some soy candles that have lavender or eucalyptus essential oils. The ultimate treat after a long day, week, month, whatever!

Plan your life and journal your thoughts.

I have been getting into the habit lately of journaling. What makes it so easy is something similar to the 5 Minute Journal or Happiness Planner. These are journals that are specifically designed to organize your thoughts and focus on happiness! Each day has a positive and uplifting quote, positive affirmations area, and so on. For the busy bee who prefers to start out light I highly suggest the 5 Minute Journal. I have been using it for many months now and just recently upgraded to the Happiness Planner which has much more information to fill in and is a little more time consuming. You can find the 5 Minute Journal on Amazon & Happiness Planner at Anthropologie or their website.

Connect with nature… Get outside!

The most valuable tip I have out of them all is to get outside. The best medicine is nature and a deep breath of clean, crisp, fresh air. Often times I find myself lacking in the amount of time spent outside so I do my best to make it a priority to find something to do outdoors. An example of something that had a positive impact is that I sat outside for a majority of this blog post. I found a nice spot in some sunlight and typed away! If you live in a house you could simply step out to your backyard which makes a big difference! So the next time you feel really stressed out, go sit by a pool or take a quick walk outside for fifteen minutes and notice the change it has on your mood!

What are activities you like to do to relax and unwind to keep your happiness in check? Let me know in the comments below!
