Lifestyle, Positivity

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED IN 25 YEARS

As my 25th birthday is approaching, I can’t help but think about how fast time is flying by! Most importantly, I have especially been feeling the shift in changes in my personal life decisions, thoughts, and overall lifestyle that has changed year after year. I certainly do not have it all together at 25 and absolutely feel there is so much left to learn and experience, but I have been seriously making some positive changes that have helped shape who I am becoming.

My biggest life changing moment to date has been marriage! I have been married for almost 2 years now. In this time, I have learned so much about myself and my husband. Being in such a serious relationship made me want to focus on myself that much more so I could be better for him, and for us. With that decision being made I dived into personal development books, podcasts, happiness journals and so on. Despite all these main factors, the person who stood out to me the most that really changed my outlook on life’s bumps has been my father in law. He is that person that, no matter how shitty a situation is, he tries to make the most of it in positivity. He always says, “life is beautiful” and I am really believing that more and more each day. Having conversations with him about life in general and hardships I have faced made me think to myself, if he has gone through so much in his time here, yet still manages to make sure each day he has is treated with gratefulness, happiness and positivity, why couldn’t I?

I began focusing on this heavily, even if I didn’t quite believe it at first. With practice (and continuous practice!) I have really felt a shift in my moods and how I handle what life throws at me. Being on social media for years has also really taught me early on that you have to have a thick skin. Not everybody is going to like you or agree with you, online and IRL. By why should that matter? You are living for you and only you. Nobody should decide your happiness, or your anger, other than you. You are who controls you, and that is the most important concept I have taken throughout these growing pain years.
Now for a list of my 25 years of wisdom!

  1. Push yourself but know when you need a break to balance out productivity and fun.
  2. Spend more time with your family. These are the people who will be here for you no matter what.
  3. Do more of what makes you happy. Whether it is reading, writing, walking, do more of what you love.
  4. Take time to remain creative. The adult coloring books are genius! Play with color and create something.
  5. Get outside. A breath of fresh air words WONDERS! It feels so beautiful to connect with nature and experience life outdoors.
  6. Get your hands dirty. This ties into being creative, but more geared towards building something or putting something together. Look up a fun DIY! Transform old furniture into a piece you love!
  7. Focus on the positive. Work towards understanding that life will happen no matter what. What matters MOST is the way you look at it and know that you will get through anything.
  8. Eat healthier. I can already feel my body begin to slow down and have less energy than I used to being a teen! This is a real eye opener for me so it makes me realize the importance of vegetables, water and a healthier diet overall. My favorite thing to do has been daily smoothies to help me get everything in one go.
  9. See it from another POV. This especially is important to me because I am married. If somebody is coming to you in regards to something you may not understand, try to see it from their shoes. How would you feel?
  10. Skincare is important AF. Yes, it is nice to wear makeup and have a flawless finish, but the older I get the more I am into a simpler and cleaner look. This means less is more when it comes to foundation, powders and so on. That is why skin care is a must! Beautify your skin naturally. Plus, keeping it well hydrated helps prevent wrinkles!
  11. Minimize your items. This is what I have recently been loving because not only does it help give a simple and clean space that is organized, but it helps me save money. I would obviously not call myself a minimalist but I have been adapting a lot of influence when it comes to my items such as clothes, shoes, makeup, you get the picture.
  12. Keep a motivational journal. It is so easy to get into the routine of a 9-5 and feel like you have no time at all to focus on yourself. These journals typically take 5-10 minutes a day and help you focus on yourself. You can note what you are grateful for, what your goals are, what made your day amazing. I highly recommend these!
  13. To piggy back on motivation, also MEDITATE. I know this seems hard because you assume you have to sit there and think about nothing…who can do that?! But no, it is just about training to silence your mind and focus on deep breathing. This has had such a great impact on me personally. I love to YouTube meditations to follow along with for morning or night.
  14. Read more. We easily get caught up on our phones, television, devices… But reading is great, especially if it is before bed. Pick something that interests you, get on a cozy hammock outdoors and wind down in beautiful words!
  15. Treat each day as if it were your last. This is easier said than done. We often get so caught up in life (I know I do) that we forget how lucky we are to be on this planet that is perfectly aligned with a body that is designed to repair itself and beat everyday to keep YOU alive! Let’s make an effort to be more grateful!

I hope you enjoyed this life list I’ve compiled together.

What will you be practicing more in your daily life?
