Lifestyle, Positivity

As my 25th birthday is approaching, I can’t help but think about how fast time is flying by! Most importantly, I have especially been feeling the shift in changes in my personal life decisions, thoughts, and overall lifestyle that has changed year after year. I certainly do not have it all together at 25 and absolutely feel there is so much left to learn and experience, but I have been seriously making some positive changes that have helped shape who I am becoming.

My biggest life changing moment to date has been marriage! I have been married for almost 2 years now. In this time, I have learned so much about myself and my husband. Being in such a serious relationship made me want to focus on myself that much more so I could be better for him, and for us. With that decision being made I dived into personal development books, podcasts, happiness journals and so on. Despite all these main factors, the person who stood out to me the most that really changed my outlook on life’s bumps has been my father in law. He is that person that, no matter how shitty a situation is, he tries to make the most of it in positivity. He always says, “life is beautiful” and I am really believing that more and more each day. Having conversations with him about life in general and hardships I have faced made me think to myself, if he has gone through so much in his time here, yet still manages to make sure each day he has is treated with gratefulness, happiness and positivity, why couldn’t I?

I began focusing on this heavily, even if I didn’t quite believe it at first. With practice (and continuous practice!) I have really felt a shift in my moods and how I handle what life throws at me. Being on social media for years has also really taught me early on that you have to have a thick skin. Not everybody is going to like you or agree with you, online and IRL. By why should that matter? You are living for you and only you. Nobody should decide your happiness, or your anger, other than you. You are who controls you, and that is the most important concept I have taken throughout these growing pain years.
Now for a list of my 25 years of wisdom!

  1. Push yourself but know when you need a break to balance out productivity and fun.
  2. Spend more time with your family. These are the people who will be here for you no matter what.
  3. Do more of what makes you happy. Whether it is reading, writing, walking, do more of what you love.
  4. Take time to remain creative. The adult coloring books are genius! Play with color and create something.
  5. Get outside. A breath of fresh air words WONDERS! It feels so beautiful to connect with nature and experience life outdoors.
  6. Get your hands dirty. This ties into being creative, but more geared towards building something or putting something together. Look up a fun DIY! Transform old furniture into a piece you love!
  7. Focus on the positive. Work towards understanding that life will happen no matter what. What matters MOST is the way you look at it and know that you will get through anything.
  8. Eat healthier. I can already feel my body begin to slow down and have less energy than I used to being a teen! This is a real eye opener for me so it makes me realize the importance of vegetables, water and a healthier diet overall. My favorite thing to do has been daily smoothies to help me get everything in one go.
  9. See it from another POV. This especially is important to me because I am married. If somebody is coming to you in regards to something you may not understand, try to see it from their shoes. How would you feel?
  10. Skincare is important AF. Yes, it is nice to wear makeup and have a flawless finish, but the older I get the more I am into a simpler and cleaner look. This means less is more when it comes to foundation, powders and so on. That is why skin care is a must! Beautify your skin naturally. Plus, keeping it well hydrated helps prevent wrinkles!
  11. Minimize your items. This is what I have recently been loving because not only does it help give a simple and clean space that is organized, but it helps me save money. I would obviously not call myself a minimalist but I have been adapting a lot of influence when it comes to my items such as clothes, shoes, makeup, you get the picture.
  12. Keep a motivational journal. It is so easy to get into the routine of a 9-5 and feel like you have no time at all to focus on yourself. These journals typically take 5-10 minutes a day and help you focus on yourself. You can note what you are grateful for, what your goals are, what made your day amazing. I highly recommend these!
  13. To piggy back on motivation, also MEDITATE. I know this seems hard because you assume you have to sit there and think about nothing…who can do that?! But no, it is just about training to silence your mind and focus on deep breathing. This has had such a great impact on me personally. I love to YouTube meditations to follow along with for morning or night.
  14. Read more. We easily get caught up on our phones, television, devices… But reading is great, especially if it is before bed. Pick something that interests you, get on a cozy hammock outdoors and wind down in beautiful words!
  15. Treat each day as if it were your last. This is easier said than done. We often get so caught up in life (I know I do) that we forget how lucky we are to be on this planet that is perfectly aligned with a body that is designed to repair itself and beat everyday to keep YOU alive! Let’s make an effort to be more grateful!

I hope you enjoyed this life list I’ve compiled together.

What will you be practicing more in your daily life?

Being on a budget is tough when you’re constantly tempted by advertisements or reviews in regards to beauty products that most would consider a luxury purchase. When it comes to beauty, it’s no secret that sometimes you really do get what you pay for. The great news is that the trend of makeup has spiked up these past several years (thanks to YouTube + Instagram!) so most affordable beauty brands have stepped their game up. What once was difficult to find in a drugstore has now easily been duped by many affordable brands.

I wanted to share budget friendly beauty products that are a steal since they work so amazing! I do still believe certain items should be purchased from a high-end quality brand, such as foundations and powders. These products sit on your face all day and if you have troubled skin or worry about clogging your pores, you want something that has quality ingredients. Not only that but most tend to have better finishes, last longer and have a better color selection. But what I think you can cheapen up on? Just about everything else! This can be concealers, lipsticks, eyeliners and certain blushes or bronzers. Again, brands these days have truly produced great products that they keep at reasonable prices.

    • First up is the Maybeline Dark Circles Correcting concealer. This one is no surprise since it has heavily been raved about by plenty of makeup gurus across social media. It’s definitely for a reason! I love the coverage you get using this product and it absolutely helps with correction underneath the eyes. The packaging is also very convenient as it has a sponge tip applicator which is used to tap where you need it.
      • Second up is the Creme Shop brushes. Buying quality brushes can get super expensive. When you’re working on building your collection and need several options to choose from, these are great! I personally am in love with their marble brush set since it’s also aesthetically pleasing! I tend to use their brushes for powder blushes, powder highlighters, detailing with concealer and for contour. I have not found these brushes to shed at all and I have been using them on the daily for almost a year!
        • Thirdly is NYX Mat Bronzer. I have been using this for YEARS and to this day it is still my absolute favorite bronzer that I use to contour with. No matter what high-end brand I have played with, this one tops them all in my opinion. A little bit goes a long way and instantly gives you cheekbones!

DIY, Lifestyle

My bff and I make the best of our time when it is spent together since we don’t see each other on a regular basis due to the infamous busy schedules or when she’s doing my hair. We love to hunt the town for particular plants, grab a bite to eat at cute little restaurants, or hit up flea markets/crystal shops! This time though, we decided we needed to craft. We are both creative souls (she does hair while I do makeup) so naturally we love to get our hands dirty with the art of creating something. We made sure to plan an idea of what we ideally wanted to make, but we still walked into Jo-Ann’s overwhelmed! Where to even start when there is so much to make?! I set my mind up on this beautiful image off of Pinterest of a simple wall hanging piece. Pinterest helped big-time when it came to actually being in the store and trying to decide on colors, theme, etc. Danielle opted for the cutest picture collage ever featuring eucalyptus (my fave!).

These were ultra-easy to make and surprisingly didn’t take much time at all.
I used two different sized gold hoops, grey thin wrapping, and blush knitting material that was trimmed.
Here was my finish result prior to me hanging it up on a wall:

Here’s my bff’s, such an adorable piece!
She used a stick we hunted from outside, eucalyptus, twine + gold wire, little white clips, and printed photography that her boyfriend photographed (it was a present for him!)

Lifestyle, Positivity

It is so easy to fall into the everyday routine of life. We get sucked into this daily grind that strictly consists of work, home care, school, all while trying to balance some type of a social life! You may not notice the toll it takes on your mental state until you have a breakdown from juggling all stressors in your daily life. What’s important is a balance and with that balance, taking care of your needs mentally and emotionally.

I’ve personally gotten in these ruts before and let me tell you…sometimes it isn’t easy to get out. As somebody who easily gets stressed out it is absolutely vital for me to take care of myself. I have always loved hearing suggestions from others on what their favorite relaxation activities are. You may have tried some of these things but use them as a reminder to schedule yourself time to do what makes you happiest.

 Challenge yourself to some Yoga!

I know yoga may not be for everyone. Believe me, it can actually be quite hard! I still think it is an amazing physical activity that also plays a huge mental role. Classes can be really nice to take but sometimes I find that it can be distracting. My personal favorite way to practice yoga and get the ultimate relaxation factor out of it is to do so in the privacy of my own home. Simply YouTube a meditation yoga and pull out a mat! I find I can even get a quick one in before going to work since there are certain sessions that take anywhere from 5-10 minutes…totally easy to accomplish! I highly recommend checking out YouTube user “Boho Beautiful” for amazing videos to follow along with.

Music is great, but have you listened to Podcasts?!

Podcasts have easily become so important to me. You can truly learn so much and open your mind to many discussions by listening to podcasts. I often listen to them when driving rather than music and especially before falling asleep. I have specific meditation + positive affirmation channels I love listening to! What’s best is that they are free and available on Spotify. I highly suggest listening to Josie Ong’s Affirmation Pod when you need a nice reminder of positive words. Before I fall asleep, I typically listen to my all time favorite Chel Hamilton’s Meditation Minis Podcasts. Her voice is so soothing! She does a variety of different types of meditation such as visualizations (love these!) and breathing exercises. In addition to these, definitely check out  Real Simple’s Adulthood Made Easy, Sophia Amoruso’s Girlboss & Amber Rose’s Loveline.

Dive into a luxurious bath… You deserve it.

There’s something deeply relaxing about sitting in a tub of water. When you add a lush bath bomb or bath tea (obsessing over these lately) to the mix, it is incredibly indulging! What I love best when taking a bath is propping up my IPad and pressing play on a Netflix series. What really helps set the mood is to light some soy candles that have lavender or eucalyptus essential oils. The ultimate treat after a long day, week, month, whatever!

Plan your life and journal your thoughts.

I have been getting into the habit lately of journaling. What makes it so easy is something similar to the 5 Minute Journal or Happiness Planner. These are journals that are specifically designed to organize your thoughts and focus on happiness! Each day has a positive and uplifting quote, positive affirmations area, and so on. For the busy bee who prefers to start out light I highly suggest the 5 Minute Journal. I have been using it for many months now and just recently upgraded to the Happiness Planner which has much more information to fill in and is a little more time consuming. You can find the 5 Minute Journal on Amazon & Happiness Planner at Anthropologie or their website.

Connect with nature… Get outside!

The most valuable tip I have out of them all is to get outside. The best medicine is nature and a deep breath of clean, crisp, fresh air. Often times I find myself lacking in the amount of time spent outside so I do my best to make it a priority to find something to do outdoors. An example of something that had a positive impact is that I sat outside for a majority of this blog post. I found a nice spot in some sunlight and typed away! If you live in a house you could simply step out to your backyard which makes a big difference! So the next time you feel really stressed out, go sit by a pool or take a quick walk outside for fifteen minutes and notice the change it has on your mood!

You know that question everyone likes to ask… “If you were deserted on an island and you could only take –insert whatever number amount- makeup products with you, what would they be?”

I would like to hope that I don’t ever have to worry about that. How’s a girl supposed to choose?! Well… I’m thinking of this list as an extended version of that question. My holy grail makeup products that no matter what (an apocalypse, deserted island, you know…), I would absolutely have these on me. All jokes aside, these truly are the products that I have fallen in love with and left their beauty mark on my heart. I find it is easy for me to buy something, use maybe half of it, then forget about it completely at the bottom of my makeup collection until I stumble upon it months later. For me to completely use something, several times even, and continuously have to purchase it to restock is definitely a miracle (and a must have product!)

  1. Kat Von D – Lock-It Foundation (shade Light 45 Neutral)
When it comes to complexion products, I’m extra selective! I’ve been really loving the KVD foundation for months now. The formula is extra nice for anyone who struggles with foundation that lasts. I see a semi-matte finish almost instantly after applying with a smooth finish. I really love this foundation! If you’re interested but still unsure how it will work with your skin (I have combination skin) then grab a sample at your local Sephora.
  2. Smashbox High Definition concealer (shade Fair)
I believe I am going on 6 years of using this under eye concealer! I love that it is an oil free concealer since I suffer from a very oily T-zone. In addition, I love the brightening finish that the shade Fair gives me. This has been an all time favorite of mine and it offers medium coverage but is build-able to full if needed.
  3. Too Faced Cosmetics Hangover Primer
Although I suffer from an oily T-zone, I also suffer from very dry skin on the outer parts of my face and forehead area. This has been extremely tricky for me to juggle since I need both mattifying and hydrating products. The Too Faced primer comes in handy because it is an ultra hydrating primer that has coconut water (mmm, yes!) and is silicone free (my skin hates silicone based primers). This is the ultimate drink of water for your skin prep!
  4. Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow (shade Dark Brown & Ebony)
It’s no secret that this is my love of all eyebrow products (and everyone else’s!) when it comes to a long-wear and flawless application. I love Dipbrow because it comes in a pot where I don’t have to squeeze product out, it applies onto skin perfectly when it comes to adding volume to brows and because it gives a soft and subtle or dramatic and snatched look depending on what you’re feeling for the day!
  5. Sephora Perfection Mist Nude Glow
This is a newer product but I am already obsessed after using it a handful of times. The main purpose of this product that comes in a spray can is to add a natural glow to your skin. You mist the product all over and it adds a dewy finish that lasts. This is especially beautiful applied to the collarbones and shoulder blades! I most of the time prefer a dewy glow when it comes to my end result of my makeup so this comes in handy.
  6. NYX Lipliner pencil (shade 802 Brown)
For almost 7 years straight I have been using this specific lip pencil with almost every lipstick I wear. I luckily bought this in bulk so that I would never run out and be without it! This truly is my favorite brown lip pencil and I carry it with me in my purse, my makeup collection, my bathroom drawer, my car…you get the picture. It’s is also extremely affordable! I usually wear this pencil with a combination of a nude lipstick blended in.
  7. MAKE UP FOR EVER Smoky Stretch mascara
I’m not one to usually splurge on mascaras, drug store works perfectly fine for me, but the MAKE UP FOR EVER Smoky Stretch mascara changed my thoughts completely. This specific mascara is a lengthening product that has a rubber wand (which I normally dislike!). After using this, I instantly saw the difference in the length of my lashes and noticed extreme ease when working to separate my lashes. I always get asked if I am wearing lash extensions when I have this applied!
  8. The Creme Shop Lashes (wispy’s are my fave!)
Another brand I have used for years is The Creme Shop! Their lashes are the best, human hair, and again, extremely affordable! I wear their wispy lashes and tend to stack them on top of each other when I am feeling a more dramatic look. The best thing? The band is super thin! This means no liner is needed as the band is clear and the wear is incredibly comfortable! …They also have some adorable marble handled makeup brushes that are to die for!
  9. Too Faced Cosmetics Chocolate Palette
My everyday go-to eyeshadow palette is the Chocolate palette because it has a mixture of warm tones for a natural or smoky look. It is usually the first eyeshadow palette I grab on the daily because all the essentials are there! I tend to sometimes use the large lighter shimmer shadow as a highlight too!
  10. MAKE UP FOR EVER Diamond Powder (shade #11)
Anything that sparkles is usually what I am attracted to on the eyes. The Diamond powder is not just any ordinary glitter. It is finely milled so that it is softer and subtle rather than chunky and heavy. The shade #11 is a beautiful rose gold tone and looks beautiful on a bare lid or layered on top of an eyeshadow. Trust me, you want to check these sparkles out!

Do we share any similar makeup must haves or am I missing on something that is an ultimate life changer!?

Kat Von D Beauty Review

Kat Von D has been an inspiration to many, including myself, for years. When she first began her makeup line she showed unique and creative packaging that has always been my personal favorite. Alongside such exquisite  packaging, her quality of product itself has been one that has had me coming back for more!
My first KVD beauty products were the Vampira lip stain (a cult fave) and the tattoo liner. The Vampira lip stain offers my favorite finish, matte. It is also a long wear which requires minimal touch ups. This shade itself is a very deep red but there is a much larger selection of colors if you’re on the look out for something else. The tattoo liner is a marker-like eyeliner. This has truly been the ONLY marker liner to date that does not crease on me! I always loved the simplicity of opening a marker and drawing my winged liner but the creasing always drove me nuts and never made it a go to item for me. This is why the tattoo liner holds a special place in my beauty bag… being a waterproof formula, I never have to worry about this product moving.
With that being said, Kat Von D was so kind enough to send these amazing new products to me! I feel so honored and so excited to use these! They are the Shade + Light eyeshadow quads and Lock-It Color Correcting eye shadow primers. The eyeshadow quads make it incredibly easy to know exactly where to apply each shade if you’re a beginner at makeup or feel overwhelmed by how many steps there can be.
Shade + Light
The shadow pay off is very pigmented, easy to blend and has a really smooth feel to it! I swatched the four special shades from each palette, using the Lock-It shadow primer in fair underneath as a base. The packaging, as usual, is super nice! The palettes feel really light to carry and have a coffin shape to them. I especially love the mirror detailing on the inside which ties up the entire design of the palette.

In addition to the new eyeshadow quads KVD Beauty came out with Lock-It Color Correcting eyeshadow primers! There are 5 different shades from light to dark. The product is a twist up creamy pencil stick. The bottom that shows the products shade is removable, exposing a sharpener that you can use to keep your pencil primer sharp. The formula has a skin like appearance and dries down quickly as a waterproof formula. This is especially great for those who suffer with creasing or oily lids. An eyeshadow primer will allow your shades to apply smoother, much more vibrant and last you the entire day without creasing or moving. I love that there are a different variety of shades! A little tip, the darkest shade on a fair or medium complexion can act as a deeper shadow base to allow for an easier smokey eye makeup!
Lock It Color Correcting Primer
Last but not least!!! There is also a double ended eyeshadow brush that comes in a sister-like packaging to the Shade+Light quads. For collectors or those who like to display their makeup on a tray, this is such a lovely piece. It’s especially easy for travel or a way to carry your shading brush for touch ups during the day. One side is a medium dome shape and the other a pencil brush. These are great options for defining the crease, smoking your shadow underneath the eyes or honestly even using as a concealer brush for under the eyes!

Special thanks to Kat Von D Beauty for sending me these beautiful products to try! I hope it helped you in deciding on your next trip to Sephora where you can find these products and more by Kat Von D!

Lust for Liquid Lips… My top must have nudes!

It isn’t anything new… liquid lipsticks. Everybody has their hands on at least one liquid lippie and it seems like every single brand on the planet is continuously coming out with them, right? I think the biggest challenge over these years has truly been finding the ones that feel just right. Not too drying, not too flakey… it has taken tons of testing from so many to narrow the search down to the best formulas! I think the trickiest of all has been for those who love nude lips. For today’s topic I have put together a list of my favorite nudes from several different brands that live up to the hype of liquid lipstick.

1. Incendio Beauty | Amulet
This brand is owned + created by one of my lovely friends Donna. She did such an incredible job formulating these liquid lipsticks! They have easily become one of my favorites and the shade Amulet is one that you’ll catch me wearing on the daily. It feels very comfortable on the lips, dries down smooth, and most importantly stays on all day without budging or flaking off! For any ladies who love witchy brands, give Incendio Beauty a peek on Instagram and their website!

2. Sephora Beauty #32 Nude Blush
Sephora’s cream lip stains have always been my favorites. Not only do they wear very well but they are the most affordable!  This seems to be the only true nude that I have come across when it comes to a liquid lippie. I love how light this shades finish is. They are also very comfortable to wear and I own several different shades with no regrets! They recently re-did their entire line of these and this is from the newest launch.

3. Kylie Cosmetics Dirty Peach
It was definitely hard to not give into purchasing the Kylie liquid lipsticks. After all, she’s known for her lips, right? I’ve tried a handful of other shades from her line but this shade has been the one I’ve gone back to every time. I love to pair this with the lip pencil is comes with or a deeper brown lip liner. This does tend to fade a bit throughout the day, however the finish it leaves when it does is really nice and I often get compliments on it most when it has!

4. MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Liquid Lip #101
Another amazing formula, MAKE UP FOR EVER launched 6 neutral shades of liquid lipstick. This is definitely an upgrade from their original liquid lipstick formula Aqua Rouge, which is a waterproof formula and can be quite drying if you reapply or have dehydrated lips. The color selection is beautiful and #101 is the first and lightest shade from the collection. I will say… I have applied this liquid lipstick, then decided to brush my teeth (I’m strange, I know…) and the liquid lip was STILL on! This one has the highest staying power out of all of them for me and has more of a velvet finish which is ultra comfortable.

5. Lime Crime Diamond Crusher in DOPE
So this isn’t a matte finish, but it is a liquid lip and it does dry down completely. The Diamond Crusher collection has a beautiful range of different sparkley colors that instantly change the finish of any lipstick you’re wearing. This adds a unique finish and might I add, they smell AMAZING! This was one of the lighter shades that I love to wear in combination with Incendio Beauty’s Amulet shade.

What are your favorite liquid lipstick formula’s you think I should try?

Skin Care

St. Ives Apricot Scrub … bad for your skin!? Better alternative!

I was out shopping today and happened to, once again, walk by the St. Ives Apricot Scrub product and think to myself… should I purchase this product? I always opt for the best and most affordable face products I can get my hands on, yet there was always one thing stopping me from St. Ives, considering there has been lots of talk on whether or not St. Ives Apricot Scrub is or isn’t bad for your face’s skin. Truth is, it is actually a long-term harsh and damaging exfoliating product. The products are made out of crushed apricot seeds which tend to have sharp edges. While exfoliating your skin, these sharp edges can cause microscopic cuts through your skin, exposing it to more bacteria and possibly causing more future breakouts. While this product may make your face feel smooth and soft now, the long term effect of using this product can cause your skin to thin and become much more sensitive. This makes it much more weaker to take being exposed to the suns rays. It is actually stated that the product is so harsh for your skin, using it daily is a definite no-no!

So, you want to exfoliate your skin, yet keep it healthy and happy…for now, and forever? Try making an exfoliating product at home. One of my favorite home-made facial exfoliating recipes (from uses aspirin which helps spot treat pimples and works to clears acne/patches.

* 1-3 aspirin
* Coffee cup or glass cup
* Shallow dish
* Warm honey (runny honey), moisturizer made for the face or natural oil such as almond, olive or coconut

* Depending on the amount of coverage needed, use 1-3 aspirin.
* Crush the aspirin into small pieces by rolling a coffee cup or glass cup over them. Place aspirin in a shallow dish.
* Stir in a few drops of water to help the aspirin dissolve into a paste.
* Add warm honey, moisturizer or a bit of oil (almond, olive or coconut works). Stir well.
* Apply as a mask or spot treat the pimple or itchy area. Allow to dry. Wash off after 10 minutes.

If you’re not exactly up for prepping your own at home, or just don’t have much time for it, Lush Cosmetics is my favorite go-to brand for handmade cosmetics and skin care. The Cup O’Coffee is such an incredible exfoliating product for the face + body! The rich coffee bean scent really makes it a must have for a morning shower. You’ll be feeling awake with smooth skin in no time!
